A LESS-KNOWN QUARTET THAT WAS MORE GLORIOUS THAN THE FAMOUS TRINITY

In the Carnatic music world it is more common to hail the female Trinity of female musicians of yesteryear as “MS , MLV and DKP”. Just as in the cricketing world they hail India’s legendary spinning trio of Bedi , Prasanna and Chandrasekhar.

However, both in the fields of Carnatic music and Cricket often people inadvertently miss to recognise the Quartet which was actually much greater than the Trinity.

“MS, MLV , DKP and Mani” was a Quartet that brought greater glory to music just as when with young Venkatraghavan added to the trio of Indian spinners it made cricket of the 1970s truly more memorable !

To both my mother Smt Mani Krishnaswami and Sri S. Venkatraghavan goes the under-recognised, under-publicised distinction in life of being the 4th element, as it were, of a QUARTET that could have made a TRINITY probably far greater and more glorious than it otherwise came to be.

Sincerely ,
