In India while gay sex is not illegal, gay-marriage however still is …But I guess the day is not far off for our country too when rainbow 🌈 weddings will have to become legal.
Legalising Hindu gay marriages under civil law is one thing but solemnising them under traditional Hindu customs I fear might be a lot more difficult?
It’s going to be interesting to see what our Hindu Vedic religious leaders will have to say about solemnising the weddings between gay couples with a priest duly chanting the relevant Vedic marital litanies relating to normal heterosexual marriages …
Or are there in the Vedic scriptures specific Chants available to solemnise rainbow 🌈 betrothals and matrimony too? I wonder. Maybe, somebody or some avant-garde modern-minded Hindu organisation will search the scriptures, discover something in the age-old manuals of prescribed marriages rites and then divvy up them all to the priestly community at large with some new-fangled Sanskrit verses for the occasion and purpose ?
For all I know , when all that happens, the average Hindu on the streets of India will show no more emotion than bemused indifference for he or she would care really nothing about the matter one way or the other. But politicians and press/ media industry of all hues and colours will of course go into a frenzy of triumph, have a gala time and field day exploiting the matter to the hilt to advance their own electoral advantage .
The rainbow 🌈 will surely come when Varuna, the benign Vedic Rain-god , gets an invitation as guest to attend India’s first gay marriage ceremony of the kind seen in this video-clip.
