India’s Performance at Commonwealth Games – 2022 Vs 2018 : Not unhappy but disappointing

I wholeheartedly congratulate all medal winning athletes from India at the recently concluded CWG Games in Birmingham. They deserve the nation’s honour, gratitude, praise and all awards. I salute them all!

The overall performance of India in terms of medal-tally at CWG 2022 however has been, disappointingly, no great improvement over CWG 2018. The total medals won has gone down to 61 from 64.

Take a look at the two tables below :

Other major Commonwealth countries like Australia , Canada, New Zealand have fared no better than India in 2022 compared to 2018. England it is that has simply outdone and outshone every other top CW country walking away with the lions share of the medals … a 33% improvement in performance over the last Games!

India continues to be a middling performer in the CWG although its potential as a competitor is much greater than what it actually delivers on the track and field …

I am not unhappy with India’s performance. I’m only disappointed. I was looking forward to at least a 10% improved medals tally from the 64 in 2018 which would have ended up at 70…. Alas, that did not happen.
