They’ve all been now made to bite the dust … Madras Music Academy, The Hindu Group and T M Krishna.
Sheer hubris has brought TMK to this sorry plight … I have nothing but sympathy for him now in his hour of reckoning.
The MAA and THG are institutions … they will survive somehow still .. because an Institution’s lifetime is long and indefinite …
But TMK is an individual … Like you and me. Our personal lifetimes are limited and our individual careers are determinate … because time, age, physical energy and the vagaries of worldly circumstance take their inevitable toll on every man and woman.
TMK will now have to cope with this public trauma suffered … The Supreme Court now holds over his head the sword of Damocles.
This bitter and sad experience in the life of this truly talented but misguided artiste will surely haunt him now for years to come .
The man was probably misled into believing that he was an all-conquering Caesar and nothing could stop the powerful lobby of MAA and THG from coronating him with the same crown that he had so insolently been demeaning all these years as a Brahminical farce.
At the end now , he finds himself badly let down. The lobby has only been leading him down the primrose path … And if the final SC verdict were to uphold the stay it granted today to the grandson of M S Subbulakshmi, then it’s going to be check & mate for the MMA and THG …
But the lobby is not going to be around him to commiserate with TMK … They’ll only leave TMK high and dry …
What a “bonfire of vanities” indeed this Madras Music Academy has become !
And what “an unkindest cut of all” has been delivered to poor TMK, soon to be the tragic, fallen Caesar! Who will “honour” him? And who will “bury” him ?
Alas, there’s something truly rotten in the state of Denmark which has its postal address at TTK Salai …. Chennai.
