Following yesterday’s resounding victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 4 out of the 5 State Assembly Elections in India, the HINDU newspaper today (11th March) carries an Op-Ed piece by Seema Chishti , “journalist based in New Delhi”… She has all the hallmarks of a wokeist, card-carrying member of the left-liberal-pseudo-secular Lutyens Delhi’s Khan-market gang — PM Modi derisively called them “gnyaani-s” in his victory speech last night — whose visceral hatred of Narendra Modi is no secret.
The Op-Ed viciously attacks the people of Uttar Pradesh for their electoral verdict. It is sheer contempt of the People’s Court. This is what she writes:
“… In the face of deep economic distress, the Centre and State taken together with a nearly eight-year incumbency at the Centre and a full majority in Lucknow, one must look at the implications of when the voter does not factor his/her own well-being when making electoral choices.”
Chishti thus openly dares to insult the wisdom of the people of Uttar Pradesh by implying that they are nothing but dumb masses who really do not know what is good for them and that the votes they just cast in the elections is not for their own well-being!
So, is Seema Chishti God Almighty ? Vox Chishti Vox Dei ?!
Seema Chishti doesn’t stop there. She goes on next to hint at something more sinister, even macabre , and that is what makes the language, tone and the unstated content of her Op-Ed piece sound so chilling and menacing. It is very clear she intends through her HINDU editorial piece to arouse communal divisions and passions. After a few ranting paragraphs about CM Yogi Adityanath (who has been resoundingly voted back again from his constituency) as, throughout in the campaign rallies he addressed, having purveyed “Hate Speech, Religious Polarisation, Hindutva Supremacy”, not to mention the use of “bulldozers”, Chishti attributes a rather mysterious “something else” that contributed to Yogi Adityanath’s galling victory …. “‘the something else’ that has driven Mr Adityanath back to Mukhya Mantri Niwas must concern us”, Chishti thunders.
Chishti just cannot accept the people’s verdict at face value nor can she accept that the Election Commission of India is a constitutional institution vested with enough powers to have pulled up Yogi Adityanath if it had found him guilty of the charges she in her Op-Ed piece makes against him — viz.: “Hate Speech, Religious Polarisation, Hindutva Supremacy” … and yes, bulldozers too. Seema Chishti insults the Election Commission too and dares to hold it in utter contempt too.
But the piece de resistance of her Op-Ed piece is this final passage that when read between the lines is truly blood-curdling and spine-chilling to say the least.
Seema Chishti above is virtually issuing a clarion call for the electoral verdicts of the people of India — if they are again going to turn out to be exactly as they have just now been delivered in Uttar Pradesh — to be overturned by not “just electoral tactics” that anti-BJP or anti-Modi phalanx in India can mount! She is making it loud and clear that it will “take more than smart electioneering or tactical plays” or “popular will” to meet “the challenge” of the will of the voters of India !
So, my question to Seema Chishti is what do you mean by saying that it will take “more than electoral tactics” or “smart electioneering” to frustrate, dislodge or defy the will of the Indian voter?
Political Power in India goes only to the winner of popular elections who wins it fair and square … and elections are won by “smart electioneering” overseen, regulated and conducted by an impartial Election Commission. There is no other alternative constitutional way.
So, what then, Ms. Chishti, are the alternatives you seem to be suggesting? What really do you have in mind?! Extra-constitutional methods to force people to vote the way you want them to? You mean by means of mass street-protests, urban Naxalism, by fomenting of civil unrest, mutiny and disaffection … anarchy, violence, sabotage… assassinations?
