The HINDU for long has espoused Communist Ideology in India … but has now graduated to being the CPI (M)’s MOUTH-ORGAN

This Hindu editorial this morning (12 Sep 2023) on the Supreme Court verdict upholding the Abrogation of Art.370 in Kashmir is nothing but mean-spirited nitpicking … Fundamentally, the Editors of the HINDU make too much of fuss if not a fetish out of Federalism.
The fact of the matter is that the Indian Constitution does not enshrine unfettered Federalism . Indian states under the Constitution enjoy only quasi-federalism I.e. there are clear limits imposed on states’ claims to autonomy and independence.
States cannot claim quasi-Sovereignty under the guise of Federalism .
Kashmir acceded to India in 1947 under conditions of war . Hence the special status granted to it under 370 . Seventy five years later there is no condition or circumstance to warrant continuation of special status. But Kashmir, once restored to statehood under the Constitution, can and is welcome to enjoy all the Federalism it wishes or wants to — just like any other Indian state subject however to the very same limiting conditions imposed by the very same Constitution.
The HINDU editorial is merely echoing the official Party line of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) —- a moth-eaten , moribund political Party that is already on its last legs in Kerala and is poised to soon become extinct in the rest of the country come May 2024.
The CPI(M) and the HINDU can soon both end up writing each other’s obituaries.
