- Nobody with any conviction or credibility can now say, as many have been doing, about India’s Democracy being destroyed by Modi .
- Nobody can now gripe about Modi trying to destroy constitutional institutions. Certainly not the ECI nor the Supreme Court .
- Nobody now can anymore or any longer call Modi a dictator or autocrat.
- Nobody now can go around wailing that Modi is dismantling India’s federalism or centre-state relations.
- Nobody can now say Modi’s Hindutva is about Hindu Rashtra. The power of the Muslim vote in this country is as powerful as the Hindu’s.
- Nobody can now say that Modi muzzles press freedoms or intimidates the media in India.
- Nobody can now say that Modi is out to remould the Indian Constitution nearer to his heart’s desire.
- Nobody can now deny that the combined popular vote in the country for all Opposition parties put together is still not good enough to surpass the emphatic vote of trust given in favour of Modi.
The beauty of this 2024 Lok Sabha election verdict is this : for both Modi and for the INDI Alliance , it’s both a victory and defeat of sorts. But for India’s Democracy, both truly in letter and spirit, it’s been an outright victory “of the people, by the people, for the people”.
No other Country in the world can hold a candle to India when it comes to democracy — as ideal, as institution, as process, function and exemplar.
