If Russia didn’t pipe the warmth drawn out from beneath its deep soil , European homesteads would shiver in the Cold.
When I look at this chart, I am able to visualise at once on a panoramic mental screen the 500+ years of European History that came before and went after the reign of the great Ottoman Empire …. !
And I’m able to understand why Western Europe and Russia are countries eternally locked tightly together in a macabre embrace in a dance of death that both know is strangling the life out of them ever so slowly but then neither can extricate itself from at anytime.
Neither of them can pursue a policy of “Live and Let Die” and hope to triumph by it; and both know yet that “To live with each other is to die together” — ever so slowly and so surely along with the wheels of Time grinding away upon earth….
That seems to be the perennial script History seems to have written and decreed for them … It is the destiny of two continental powers who must must carry on acting it out, encore after encore, no matter what the vicissitudes of the passing centuries or of the swell and fall of the tide of human affairs in this world … Both must faithfully act their part, for good or for bad, upon History’s great fateful, playful stage…. Until Death does them part.

It is true that Russia is the largest supplier of natural gas to the EU.
However, this country contributes but a modest share of resources that the EU is devouring for the sake of its population and economy.
Now, 450 million people are residing there. With $15 trillion or 17% of the world GDP the EU economy sucks up all it can from around the world: energy, minerals, brains and labour.
