British PM Clement Atlee in 1947 wrote to Lord Mountbatten the last British Viceroy of India who was in charge of transferring power from the British Crown to Independent India :
“Keep India united if you can; if you can’t, then try save some of the wreck; in either case, get Britain out of there”.
This is exactly what I think Joe Biden of the USA too is telling the Europeans now in Ukraine:
“Try to get the Russians out of Ukraine; if you can’t do that, save the wreck that remains; in any case, keep NATO out of there”.
History repeating itself! What ?!
The script might be a little different but the theme is the same …. Read this sound bite from what Biden said yesterday and you will understand:
“I’ve moved over 12,000 American forces along the borders with Russia — Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, et cetera — ….. Granted, if we respond, it is World War Three, but we have a sacred obligation on NATO territory — a sacred obligation — Article 5. And we will not — although we will not fight the third World War in Ukraine….”
That’s really code word for the Europeans: “Do whatever you want to save the wreck inside Ukraine, but don’t you ever get NATO caught in there!… for God’s sake”.
