WHY INDIA’s MIDDLE-EAST FOREIGN POLICY SEEMS TO BE BADLY PICKLED TODAY?

The answer to the question, in my humble layman view is …

Because India’s relations with Palestine are emotional and towards Israel, they are transactional.

Palestine reminds INDIA so much of the pain and the horrors of her own 1947 Partition when millions of people were displaced and rendered homeless and destitute. So India cannot help feeling a lot of empathy for Palestinians there.

On the other hand, for India today cultivating good relations Israel holds great promise in the future— the promise of Israel turning out to be a steadfast and very resourceful ally against Pakistani Terror on its western front, against Chinese incursions on India’s northern and north-eastern borders and, more importantly, also as a partner in the exciting new transcontinental economic and business venture , the IMEEC (India Middle-East Europe Economic Corridor), that could eventually either complement the Chinese BRI or else compete with it geopolitically. It is very evident that India is desperately hoping for , if not dreaming about a future when an India-Israel-Palestine ménage a trois might perhaps just work, thrive and succeed … But then the big question is whether such dreams and such a foreign policy is rooted in raw and cold calculations of realism?

In international relations — whether conducted emotionally or transactionallyAudacity of Hope does not guarantee its Realisability.
