It’s about time that India’s foreign policy recognises that the USA is exactly what Henry Kissinger once said his country was : “It’s dangerous to be an enemy of America . But to be a friend of America can be lethal”.
It’s a choice between which two of the empires, American or Chinese, is more evil . India can no longer shirk making the choice between American hegemony or Chinese hegemony.
America is simply going to use India to balance China’s power in this part of the world in a way not very different from the way it is buckpassing the job of destabilising Russia to Ukraine.
If India baulks , then America will do everything within its powers to strategically destabilise India … not directly … but indirectly . And that would be to start changing regimes around India’s neighbourhood and replace them one by one with US-propped up military regimes — as in Pakistan — or with “good terrorist” Islamist rulers as seen now in Afghanistan, and Maldives and expectedly very soon to emerge in Bangladesh.
India is trapped between a rock and a hard place . How long will it keep just wriggling ?
